Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley Systems
Business partner ID required to generate temporary license
Steps for getting Softwareβ
-
Register for an account on
https://www.rockwellautomation.com/account/using your .mil e-mail address -
Navigate to Support > Downloads > Find Product Downloads > Find Downloads
-
Search for the desired software product. The hardware details page will identify what software is used to manage the device
-
Download software for the specific firmware version needed.
Software is supposed to be backwards compatible with older firmware. However, past experience in our environment showed this to not work.
-
Call
888-382-1583and submit a software request. This requires the business ID from the contractor/owner of the system you will interact with.- Alternatively the serial number of the software can be given instead
-
The business partner ID or serial number needs to be provided to Rockwell Automation support so they can use it to generate a temporary license.
- This is a service they provide for up to three 30 day temporary licenses per business parter ID/serial number per year.
This means you only have a maximum of 90 days to use the software for mission purposes.
- Once you have the activation details, you need to install the software on a system or VM with internet connection so you can register the software. Once registered, the system can be taken offline and used from there.
Experience has shown that once offline, the software doesn't recognize that it has been registered but will give you a 7-day trial.
-
It is suggested using a VM to install/use the software and taking a snapshot so you can easily revert the VM and disable time sync to use the software past 90 days. If all else fails, you can change your VM time to the date it was installed to utilize the software.
-
Let the contractor/system owner know how many temporary licenses you obtain for the duration of the mission so they know how many are left for the year.
-
If you need to reinstall the software, you need to ensure you uninstall it from the old system while connected to the internet so the license can be released. Otherwise you have to contact support in order to remove the activation on the temporary license given. Only one activation per temporary license is allowed, which is why you can't simply use the contractor's serial number to active
